Get ready fashionistas, as New York Fashion Week is coming back this month! Ever since the covid-19 pandemic broke out in the whole world, leading to lockdown and social distancing, everyone wondered if Fashion Weeks are still on this fall. As fashion weeks are not back to normal yet, here is what to expect at the upcoming New York Fashion Week.
The CFDA released by the end of August the official schedule for New York Fashion Week, which is set to take place from September 13th till 16th. The event will be shorter than it has been in the past, showing on RUNWAY360, a digital platform which will be an ongoing business tool for brands to use, complimenting in-person events and shows in the future.
It’s digital season! After Haute Couture collections were presented virtually through short movies, designers will be introducing their SS21 collections during NYFW through digital presentations and live events with limited guests. Working press and photographers will be considered “crew” and therefore won’t count within the limit.
New York Fashion Week will kick off with Jason Wu in an intimate live show on a rooftop on September 13th, followed by Carolina Herrera on the 14th, Anna Sui, Naeem Khan on the 15th and Tom Ford closing the fashion event on the 16th. However, some NYFW stalwarts were not included in the official schedule, such as: Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler, Brandon Maxwell, The Row.
There are many reasons why the brands mentioned above decided not to show on-schedule this season; for some, the pandemic affected their supply chains around the world, which makes creating a collection to a presentable standard almost impossible, while others realized that strict seasonal collections weren’t right for their brand.
Their absence will definitely affect Fashion Weeks on the long run, but for now, the show must go on!
